The brand-new Alice`s Queen of Hearts Afternoon Tea at Taj 51 Buckingham Gate features beautifully designed pastries and scrumptious savoury treats inspired by the foul-tempered monarch from the beloved classic.

The innovative concept by 2019 Highly Commended Kona restaurant tells the story through the eyes of the Queen herself, through sharp colours and boldly designed epicurean surprises.

Some of the sweet temptations down the rabbit hole include Off With Their Heads - a delicious banana moelleux with a raspberry crémeux dress, No White Roses - an indulgent Victorian red velvet cupcake topped with the iconic ‘half-painted’ roses and a delicious chocolate ganache, Running Late - a strawberry pocket watch macaron, intrinsically decorated with milk chocolate piping, Checkmate – a redcurrant and chocolate Battenberg cake in the style of a classic checkerboard, Tea Party at 6 – a dark chocolate hat, fitting for a mad-hatters tea party and Royal Flush - a mouth-watering orange semolina cake, adorned with fresh strawberries and blackberries in a chess-like formation.

The equally impressive tea sandwiches replicate the Queen’s soldiers and playing cards and include On Duty - Coronation chicken on carrot bread; Pick a Card - smoked salmon with horseradish crème fraîche on rye bread; Double Time - egg mayonnaise classic and In-Line - cucumber and soft cheese on beetroot bread.

The Queen of Hearts sandwiches and scones are beautifully presented on Alice In Wonderland illustrated crockery, while the sweet treats sit upon a glass checkerboard. The all-important Queen of Hearts playing card can be spotted on each table, alongside a bespoke hand-made top hat centrepiece.
